HOW TO SHAVE WITHOUT IRRITATING YOUR SKIN

Deciding to shave regularly is a choice that requires dedication: shaving every day can be a chore, but if done the right way, it can be useful for keeping facial skin looking young. However, how can you shave every day without getting irritated? We reassure you: there are precautions you can take to shave without irritating your skin and to prevent skin irritation after shaving. So, here are our tips on daily shaving to avoid irritation and achieve smooth skin every day!

THE ADVANTAGES OF SHAVING EVERY DAY

Although for many men the mere thought of shaving too often is boring and annoying, dermatologists agree that shaving, if done well, can be a panacea for facial skin. Shaving, strictly with a razor blade, keeps it young and beautiful. In fact, the blade, passing over the skin, stimulates cell turnover and removes the outermost layers, i.e., all the dead cells responsible for a dull appearance, consequently giving a younger and brighter look.

In addition to performing a light daily scrub, shaving promotes surface circulation, bringing greater elasticity and toning the face. All these various benefits also have the effect of preserving the skin from the premature appearance of wrinkles and signs of aging! But at this point, how do you shave without getting irritated?

WHY DOES SKIN GET IRRITATED WHEN SHAVING?

Understanding how to shave every day without irritating the skin is a priority for many. Despite all the advantages we have seen regarding daily shaving, in fact, it is often impossible to continue this activity due to irritation. The reasons behind this problem are manifold:

  • irritant dermatitis. It is a general skin irritation that we can easily recognize thanks to redness, burning, and hypersensitivity immediately after shaving. It is a very common annoyance, especially for those with particularly sensitive skin. In this case, therefore, if one suffers very often from severe irritation, it might be better to switch to using an electric razor;
  • lack of caution. In general, the razor blade is the best shaving method to use daily. However, it must be used with caution and gently. For example, if you have a curly or very thick beard, you need to be careful to avoid ingrown hairs and razor bumps, in particular by avoiding shaving against the grain;
  • acne. The skin may become irritated in the presence of acne or small pimples. In this case, it would be better to wait for the pimples to disappear before resuming shaving, as you would risk worsening the problem by spreading the infection to other areas of the face;
  • excessive insistence. It is preferable to make as few passes as possible over the same spot, otherwise the hydrolipidic film that protects the skin could be quickly eliminated, not allowing it to regenerate. To avoid too many passes, you can choose a 3 or 4-blade razor.

HOW TO SHAVE WITHOUT IRRITATING THE SKIN

Shaving every day without irritating the skin is still possible. Let's see together how to avoid irritation and what are the fundamental steps for a perfect shave!

PREPARATORY STEPS TO SHAVE WITHOUT IRRITATION

To avoid irritating your facial skin, first of all, it is good to put into practice a whole series of preparatory actions.

First of all, there is a recommended time of day for shaving: the morning. As soon as you wake up, in fact, the capillaries of the face are not too open and the blood still flows a bit slowly, preventing any small nicks from creating too much disturbance.

Furthermore, it is strongly recommended to shave after your morning shower. Hot water, in fact, hydrates and warms the skin, which then results in being softer, facilitating the gliding of the razor. Alternatively, it can also be a good method to use a towel soaked in hot water in contact with the skin for a few minutes before proceeding with the shave. This is a particularly relaxing step, as those who have tried our Italian-style shave know well.

After that, it is of fundamental importance to use a shaving foam or shaving cream to apply to the face. With its emollient effect, this type of product makes facial hair softer and allows the razor to glide best over the face.

An extra precaution could be to use a pre-shave lotion or oil, which allows for softening even the thickest hairs and creates an additional barrier between the blade and the skin. Try our Pre-shave Oil with vegetable oils and sweet almonds, which also performs a moisturizing action thanks to vitamin A, vitamin E, mallow, and calendula.

OUR TIPS FOR SHAVING WITHOUT CAUSING IRRITATION

After these initial steps, we are ready to shave. We start by rinsing the razor with hot water, and then begin to pass the blade, following the direction of hair growth. Starting from the sideburn area, where the skin is less sensitive, one must be careful to follow the shapes of the face with the angle of the razor.

After each pass, it is important to rinse the razor to eliminate the hairs that remain between the blades and that would not allow for a smooth shave. After an initial pass, one can make a second pass against the grain gently, applying a layer of foam again.

HOW NOT TO IRRITATE THE SKIN AFTER SHAVING

Once you have finished shaving, there are some precautions you can take to avoid the onset of irritation and therefore understand how not to irritate the skin after shaving. Of fundamental importance is to use an aftershave with a soothing and astringent action. Our Soothing Aftershave Balm with Alpha Bisabolol, with a moisturizing action, and with Witch Hazel and menthol essential oil, which are soothing, is suitable for all skin types, even the most delicate, and is non-greasy, leaving the skin soft, elastic, and hydrated.

An additional precaution, for those who want to treat themselves to a final moment of well-being and do not want to irritate the skin after shaving, is to use a damp cloth soaked in cold water to keep on the face for a few minutes for a refreshing and pore-astringent action.

Naturally, not everyone manages, while shaving every morning, to follow each of these important steps. Our advice, therefore, to avoid getting annoying irritation if it is not always possible to follow this procedure, is to shave every other day or every 3 days. By doing so, you ensure that the skin has time to recover and that its protection layer regenerates.
