Throw us away, but do it the right way!

In recent years, more and more people have been trying to make sustainable choices, and we couldn't agree more. To guide you on this path, we have decided to compile this guide, in which we provide you with tips and information on how to dispose of shaving foam cans, used razors, and disposable products or those with caps, so as to help you minimize your environmental impact. Thanks to our suggestions, you should have less difficulty disposing of Barberino’s products. However, please remember that recycling varies from country to country and city to city: therefore, be sure to first consult the guidelines of your municipality and your region to be sure you are recycling correctly.

The value of sustainability

Nowadays, the importance of sustainability cannot be underestimated: it is a fundamental value, capable of guiding us towards a better future. For this reason, sustainability is at the heart of Barberino’s focus. Our personal well-being, in fact, cannot be separated from the health of our planet. These are two complementary goals that we are constantly committed to achieving. Recently, for example, we launched an interesting initiative in collaboration with Green Future Project, which consists of planting trees following every purchase made on our website. In this way, we actively contribute to the fight against climate change and promote reforestation.

This guide also intends to be a small contribution in this direction: we want to explain how to responsibly dispose of the Barberino’s products you use daily, from shaving foam to used razors, to take care of ourselves while always keeping an eye on respect for the environment. Let's see how together.

Where do you throw away shampoo, conditioner, and other products with caps?

If you have purchased one of our shampoos, conditioners, or other products that have a cap, remember not to remove it from its original packaging. Contrary to popular belief, it is better to leave the cap on the bottles because, due to the mechanical recycling process, these small plastic parts might otherwise not be recycled. It often happens that during the process, the caps, being small in size, fall into a large container and cannot be sorted along with the other plastics.

Our bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and wax containers are made of plastic: before throwing them into the appropriate bins, remember to rinse the inside! With a quick wash of the contents and the removal of the label, the UV scanners used during the recycling process will correctly read the type of plastic used.

Where do you throw away tubes and disposable masks?

If the product you purchased is in a tube, you can proceed in the same way. You need to:

  • cut off the top of the tube;
  • rinse the inside;
  • then, throw the container away with the rest of your plastic.

As for our masks, it is possible to throw the cardboard packaging into the appropriate paper bin, while the used disposable mask must go into the general waste.

Let's move on to the difficult things: shaving foam and razors. These two types of products are generally more complex to dispose of because it is not clear where they should be thrown, but don't panic: we have the answer to this too.

Where do you throw away shaving foam cans?

When it comes to disposing of shaving products correctly, shaving foam cans can be a real challenge. Their container body is generally made of aluminum or steel, while the nozzle and cap are made of plastic. Not only that: they are also pressurized containers, so they require specific handling for their safe disposal.

Depending on the municipality, these cans might also fall into the category of special waste and might not be allowed in general waste or plastic recycling. For this reason, the first step when asking where to throw away shaving foam cans is to consult the local authorities.

In many other areas, however, it is possible to sort them at home. So how do you do it and where do you throw away shaving foam cans?

  • If the can is completely empty, the best way to dispose of it is to separate the cap and the nozzle and throw them into the plastic, while the can itself can be destined for metal recycling. In some municipalities, these two types of waste might go into the same bin;
  • If the can still contains product, you may have to take it to the nearest ecological island (recycling center). Contact your municipality or consult the relevant regulations to understand how to proceed. One thing is certain: the answer to the question "where do you throw away shaving foam cans" is never the general waste bin.

Whatever happens, however, do not pierce or crush the shaving foam can. Doing so could increase the risk of danger due to residual pressurization.

Where do you throw away used razors?

After shaving, preferably without irritating your skin, it's time to throw away the used razors. But how? For razors, the issue is more complicated: even if they are mainly made of plastic, since they are not packaging, they cannot be disposed of in plastic recycling. Plastic recycling, in fact, generally concerns plastic packaging, such as bottles, containers, and bags. Razors, on the other hand, contain mixed components, including plastic and metal, and often also sharp blades. These materials do not fall into standard recyclable plastic waste categories and therefore require separate management due to their characteristics and the need for special precautions for their safe and eco-friendly disposal.

Consequently, if you are wondering where to throw away used razors, the answer is that they should be thrown into the general waste. The good news for our planet, however, is that some razor manufacturers are working to develop more sustainable and recyclable solutions for these products. We hope there will be news soon! In any case, we invite you to check if there are specific recycling programs for razors in your area.

Finally, we'll close with a last tip. To avoid potential risks to workers who manage waste, it is also useful to take some precautions when throwing razors or other sharp objects into the general waste. For example, it would be a good idea to cover the blade of the razors before throwing them into the general waste. To do this, you can simply ensure that the blade is covered by paper or rigid plastic packaging. In this way, you help minimize the risk of injuring anyone who has to handle the waste.
