5 MYTHS ABOUT HAIR

Hair is a very important part of a person, as it frames the face and is a symbol of one’s identity.

Precisely for this reason, people are increasingly passionate about hair care, which has led to the spread of myths and legends; let's look at five that might have influenced your haircare routine!

1. WASHING YOUR HAIR OFTEN WILL MAKE IT GET DIRTY FASTER

How many times have you been advised not to wash your hair often to avoid it getting dirty faster, or even to avoid damaging it? In reality, frequent washing is advisable, especially for oily hair, because doing so removes excess sebum and prevents the formation of dandruff. Furthermore, washing your hair massages the scalp, stimulating the follicles and thus helping growth! Therefore, frequent hair washing does not damage the hair nor does it increase greasiness; however, it is important to use a gentle product suitable for your hair (have you seen our gentle daily use shampoo?) while maintaining a healthy and balanced diet.

2. GEL CAUSES HAIR LOSS

Absolutely not! In fact, gel, like any other styling product, does not penetrate the follicle but only acts on the lengths, therefore not causing breakage or hair loss itself. The same goes for hair styling pastes; it is enough to use good quality products in the correct way and there will be no damage to your hair.

3. WEARING A HAT OR HELMET CAUSES HAIR LOSS

The scalp needs oxygen, so it is essential to allow it to "breathe"; however, headgear does not act as an obstacle and does not cause baldness. The main reason for premature baldness is to be found in genetics and, in that case, certain habits could indeed accelerate (not cause) hair loss. An example is pulling your hair back too often and for too long, as happens when tying it up: excessive tension, in fact, can cause problems for the follicle. However, it is unlikely that the same situation would occur with a hat or helmet: in any case, it is best to avoid models that are too tight!

4. REGULARLY CHANGING PRODUCTS IS GOOD FOR YOUR HAIR

No: once you have found the product best suited to your hair, it is good to stick with it, and using a combination of two products—shampoo and conditioner—is advisable. If it seems to you that these products "no longer have an effect," it is probably because the condition of your hair has changed due to age or environmental changes: in that case, it is better to look for a new product.

5. WASHING HAIR WITH COLD WATER GIVES SHINE

Yes and no: cold water as a final rinse closes the hair cuticles and provides a bit of shine; however, at the same time, it clogs the scalp, preventing the substances in the products from taking effect. A piece of advice: use lukewarm water and rinse only the lower part of your hair with cold water!
