How to grow and take care of your mustache in 4 simple steps

In recent years, the mustache has returned to being a trend; we are not talking about a mustache left to grow carelessly, but a truly well-groomed one. Growing a mustache, however, requires care, patience, and the use of the right products: that is why our Barberino’s Masters have worked on a short guide to come to your rescue.
Before starting, take care of your skin by making sure to wash it, keep it hydrated, and use an exfoliant 1-2 times a week; the accumulation of oil or dirt could block the follicle and prevent hair growth. Even if your goal is to grow a mustache and not a beard, the use of Argan Oil is essential to allow the hairs to grow and be nourished.
Once you have grown it, however, you need to learn how to take care of it, otherwise, it will look untidy. So:
- Wash it two or three times a week so that it doesn't collect dirt, using a specific shampoo for beard and mustache which, let’s remember, has a different pH than hair shampoo!
- As for trimming, there are two options: you can use scissors to cut any excess hair or to create clean edges, or alternatively, you can use an electric shaver equipped with a precision trimmer which will help you save time and be more precise. Scissors are suitable for very small and slender mustaches.
- The styling of your mustache is up to you: you can decide to simply trim it or also use a dedicated wax or our Matt Paste if what you want to achieve is a defined and tidy mustache.
- To ensure you have a tidy mustache, comb it with a proper comb even several times a day, especially if it is a handlebar mustache with tips curled spirally towards the cheekbones.
By following these simple tips, you will have no trouble taking care of your mustache. We recommend keeping your skin and mustache hydrated: it is the true key to a successful mustache. And if you are not yet equipped with the right tools of the trade, we recommend our Set created specifically for mustache care.
